Surf Diva Surf School launches Surf Pup Program

La Jolla, California – June 17, 2009 – Surf Diva is excited to announce their brand new Surf Pup program!  This is a program for dogs who already feel comfortable in the water.  The key is to always have fun!

Teaching surfing to a dog requires SKILL, PATIENCE, and COMMUNICATION.

A qualified Surf Instructor with animal handling skills is very important. 


Safety Tips:

1.    The dog must know basic commands such as “sit” and “stay”
2.    A doggie life jacket
3.    Doggie wetsuits keep smaller and non-water breed dogs warmer and more buoyant.
4.    At least 2 Surf Instructors should do the training.
5.    Never force the dog.

The “Surf Pup” Lesson

1.    Training with the Surf Instructor on the beach (dry land)
2.    We start by putting your dog on a soft surfboard in shallow water.
3.    We check their balance by pulling the dog around.
4.    We work our way to let him/her ride a wave in.

Our motto:  “The best surfer in the water is the pup having the most fun!”

Classes start at $80 for an introductory course, assessment of your pup’s surfing potential, and homework for the owner to take home for practice with your pup.
